Our History
The original owner of PBS, Charles Phillips began in the backhoe and septic tank installing business in 1960 with his Brother Dee Phillips to service all of Lauderdale County and into Colbert County of Alabama. Dedication, hard work and honesty is what lead him to an additional service adventure into cleaning septic tanks. The entities went hand and hand so the business began multiplying throughout the seventies and into the eighties when his son Brent Phillips partnered with him.
After working a few years together and developing relationships in the construction industry, PBS Portable Toilets was created in 1989 to service the Shoals area. The first order was a truck load of twenty-six fiberglass units and as Barbara Phillips, Charles wife stated, “We began renting them faster than we could get them delivered to us from the factory!”
Brent bought out his Dad’s portion of the business in 1995 while adding portable hand washing stations, temporary holding tanks, RV pumping service, hand sanitizer stands, as well as, expanding into the Decatur/Athens Alabama markets. In 1996 Brent decided to concentrate on the other divisions of his company and sold PBS Toilets to the present owners Whitney Phillips Barnett and Max Barnett changing the name to PBS Services Inc. Michael Bevis joined as a partner a year later and business was expanded from an original 3 county area to a seven county area including the largest market area of Huntsville, AL.
PBS was in search of an additional service to provide to the existing customers so a 15 roll-off dumpster service was created in 1999. It was an easy transition because most home builders were hauling their own construction debris and this offered an affordable option, Throughout the 2000’s business progressed and 20,30,40 yard containers were added increasing PBS’s ability to reach the needs of many more customers and industries. Presently our equipment is found any type site including industrial, commercial, construction, permanent and many other sites.
PBS has expanding throughout the years by adding services, expanding into different markets and acquiring similar local businesses. Since 2010, the focus for growth has been through acquisitions and managing change so that we can continue to meet our customers’ expectations.
